I’ve been a little slack in keeping this site updated. But a fair amount has happened.
Since launch of the website, I released the initial version of the Survival Game Template. That has been received very well and a lot of additional work has gone into it since then, keeping it updated, several major bug fixes, and so on. Also, I’m part way into a complete rewrite of the entire system to include multiplayer. You can read more about that over on the forum post at the Unreal Engine 4 forums, and you can also keep an eye on the official SGT trello that tracks progress. Progress has been slow, due to some unfortunate setbacks in my offline life. But things are getting done. The inventory system is already about 90% complete, as is the day night system, and many other bits and pieces.
Sometime after the launch of the SGT, I also launched the Quest Map and Navigation System. This system allows you to plug in an easy-to-use world map and local map system, as well as way points and a compass. There’s a video demonstrating it below, and so far that has also received great reception, with a 5/5 rating on the Unreal Engine 4 marketplace!
Since the release of this map system, most of my limited free time has gone into the multiplayer rewrite of the Survival Game Template. But at some point, a friend of mine came to me asking about making an asset because there wasn’t one available on the marketplace suited to his needs. The basic idea was a visual effect that the player could trigger, similar to that used in many AAA games such as Batman, Assassin’s Creed, Dying Light, etc. The player presses a button and items of interest – enemies, allies, quest items, etc. – get highlighted visually to the player. The effect has been cleared for the marketplace by Epic Games and we are currently awaiting a release date for finalisation of it all. You can check out the small amount of information that we have put out over at the UE4 forums thread on Survivor Vision. Or you could just check out this video here:
There will be a proper trailer, and much more information, coming to this website and that thread closer to the release of the asset.
So that’s the catch up… Hopefully I’ll keep this site a little more updated from now on. The product pages have always been updated – but keeping the news flowing is important too! Gotta get on top of that.
